Science Tutoring in Redmond and Online
One-on-one biology, chemistry, and physics tutoring for high school students, taught by experienced tutors who specialize in the subject they teach. A biology student works with a tutor who specializes in biology, and the same holds in chemistry and physics, on a curriculum built around that student's own course and needs. In person on the Eastside and online nationwide, teaching the Eastside since 2012.
Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, customized to your student
Archimedes tutors biology, chemistry, and physics at the high school level, including Honors and AP. Every student works one-on-one with a tutor who specializes in that subject, on a curriculum we build for them rather than a fixed program everyone moves through.
We teach in person at our Redmond center and online to students nationwide. Online sessions use the same teachers, the same materials, and the same standard as in-person work. Pricing is the same in both settings and is listed in full on our tuition page, so you can see what a program costs before you commit.
- Biology, Honors Biology, and AP Biology
- Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and AP Chemistry
- Physics and AP Physics
- AP Environmental Science
- One dedicated, subject-specialist tutor per student
- A curriculum aligned to the student's own school course or AP framework
Our approach to science tutoring
All of our science tutors are experienced, professional tutors who specialize in biology, chemistry, or physics. They are not gig or marketplace tutors filling open hours between other jobs. This is the reason our students get steady, informed instruction: the person across the table has taught the subject for years and knows where students get stuck.
From that foundation, we build a curriculum customized to each student. We do not hand out a standard syllabus and ask every student to follow it at the same pace. Instead, the plan is tailored to the student's needs, shaped around the course they are taking, the topics giving them trouble, and the way they learn. A student reviewing for a unit test, a student catching up after a hard quarter, and a student aiming for a 5 on an AP exam each get a different plan.
We teach for understanding rather than memorization. A formula a student can recall but not apply does not hold up on a hard exam question or in the next course. So we teach the why behind each idea, the cause and the mechanism, and we watch how each student reasons through a problem. When a method is working for them we build on it, and when it is not we introduce another. You can read about the tutors behind this on our teachers page.
- Experienced, professional tutors, not gig or marketplace tutors
- A curriculum customized to each individual student
- Tutoring tailored to the student's course, gaps, and learning style
- Deep conceptual understanding over rote memorization
How it works
Getting started is straightforward, and the plan keeps adjusting as we learn how your student works.
- Free consultation. We talk through your student's current course, recent grades, and goals, and get an informal read on where they stand in biology, chemistry, or physics.
- An individualized curriculum. We build a plan for your student, aligned to their school course or the relevant AP framework, focused on the concepts that will move them forward.
- A dedicated tutor in their subject. Your student is matched with a tutor who specializes in their subject and works with them session to session.
- Ongoing adjustment. We pay attention to how your student thinks through problems and adjust the plan over time, reinforcing what works and reworking what does not.
Science subjects and concepts we cover
We scope our science tutoring to the high school courses below and teach them in real depth. For students in Honors or AP sections, we cover AP-aligned units alongside the coursework so school grades and exam preparation move together rather than competing for time.
Biology, Honors Biology, and AP Biology. We cover cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human anatomy and physiology, with AP-aligned depth for students heading into the AP Biology exam.
Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and AP Chemistry. We cover atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical bonding, stoichiometry and the mole, gases, thermochemistry, equilibrium, and acids and bases, again with AP-aligned depth for students who need it.
Physics and AP Physics. We work through kinematics and motion, Newton's laws, forces and free-body diagrams, work and energy, momentum and collisions, and torque and rotational motion, with AP-aligned problem sets for students heading into the exam.
AP Environmental Science. We cover ecosystems and biodiversity, populations, energy and natural resources, pollution, and global change, aligned to the AP framework.
- Biology: cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, anatomy and physiology
- Chemistry: atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, equilibrium, acids and bases
- Physics: kinematics, Newton's laws, forces, energy, momentum, rotational motion
- AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Environmental Science taught alongside school coursework
Who science tutoring is for
Our science tutoring fits students who want a personalized alternative to large classes or marketplace tutoring, students who need a firmer conceptual grounding in biology, chemistry, or physics, and students taking or moving into Honors or AP sections who want to stay ahead of the material.
It also fits families who want in-person support on the Eastside or live online support from anywhere in the country. Many of our science students also work with us in math, from Algebra II and Geometry through Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus, with the same dedicated tutor approach. If your student is preparing for the AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, or AP Environmental Science exam itself, our AP exam test prep covers that work, aligned to the AP framework.
- Students who want a personalized alternative to large or marketplace tutoring
- Students who need stronger conceptual grounding in biology, chemistry, or physics
- Students taking or heading into Honors or AP Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
- Families who want in-person Eastside support or live online support nationwide
In person on the Eastside and online nationwide
Our center is in Redmond, and we serve students across the Eastside, including Bellevue, Kirkland, Sammamish, Woodinville, and Bothell, along with families throughout the Lake Washington School District. For everyone else, we teach online at the same standard, with the same dedicated tutor your student would have in person.
Pricing is listed in full on our tuition page. We keep it on a single page so you can review what a program costs in one place rather than asking for a quote.
Common questions
- Which science subjects do you tutor?
- Biology, chemistry, and physics, including Honors and AP levels, plus AP Environmental Science. We scope our science tutoring to these high school courses and teach them in depth, and we cover AP-aligned units alongside school coursework for students in AP sections.
- What kind of tutors do you hire?
- Experienced, professional tutors who specialize in biology, chemistry, or physics. They are not gig or marketplace tutors. You can read about the tutors behind the program on our teachers page.
- Will my student work with the same tutor each session?
- Yes. Each student is matched with one tutor who specializes in their subject (biology, chemistry, or physics), and works with that tutor session to session so the instruction stays consistent.
- Do you offer science tutoring in person and online?
- Yes. We teach in person at our Redmond center on the Eastside and online to students nationwide. Online sessions use the same tutors, the same materials, and the same standard as in-person work, with the same dedicated tutor.
- How do you customize tutoring for my student?
- We start with a free consultation and an informal read of where your student stands, then build an individualized curriculum aligned to their school course or AP framework. From there we watch how your student thinks through problems and adjust the plan over time, reinforcing what works and reworking what does not.
- Can you help with AP science exam prep?
- Yes. We teach AP-aligned units alongside the school course, and our AP exam test prep covers the AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Environmental Science exams, aligned to the AP framework.
