How the program works

A focused four-step plan, tailored to each student.

Strong scores come from understanding the material, building problem-solving skills, and practicing under the right guidance. We don't hand out generic curricula.

  1. 01

    Full SAT diagnostic

Every student begins with a full diagnostic SAT so we can clearly identify strengths, weaknesses, and the areas with the greatest opportunity for score improvement.

  2. 02

    Customized study plan

We build a focused plan rather than spending time on topics the student already understands. Instruction is adapted to each student's learning style so material is retained, not just covered.

  3. 03

    Two dedicated teachers

Students attend two 55-minute sessions per week. Unlike other prep programs, we don't use a single generalist for both subjects. Each student gets a dedicated Math teacher and a dedicated Reading & Writing teacher.

  4. 04

    Digital SAT practice tests

Students take full-length Digital SAT practice tests on a professional testing platform that simulates the real exam. Results help us refine the plan and focus on highest-impact areas.

Dedicated teacher

SAT Math

Advanced problem solving, algebra, data analysis, and SAT-specific strategies.

Dedicated teacher

Reading & Writing

Grammar mastery, passage analysis, and efficient reading strategies.

This balanced structure means students steadily improve in both sections of the exam. Most prep programs assign one generalist tutor to cover both subjects. We don't.

Common questions

How long should my student prepare for the SAT?
Most students benefit from 8 to 12 weeks of structured preparation. Students with a strong academic foundation often do well with our 8-week program, while students who want more time to build skills and confidence choose the 12-week option. Starting early gives students more time to practice and reduces test-day stress.
When should my child start SAT prep?
We recommend starting SAT preparation at least two to three months before the test date. Many families in the Lake Washington School District begin during sophomore or junior year, especially if their student is also preparing for the PSAT or aiming for National Merit recognition.
What is a good SAT score?
A good SAT score is one that lands at or above the middle 50 percent range of admitted students at the colleges your student wants to attend. For context, the national average SAT score is about 1050, a score above 1200 is above average, and a score of 1350 or higher places students in the top 10 percent of all test takers. Selective state flagships typically admit students in the 1200 to 1450 range, while highly selective private universities and Ivy League schools usually see admitted students at 1450 to 1550 or higher. Rather than chasing a single number, look up each target college's published middle 50 percent SAT range on BigFuture or the school's admissions page and aim for the 50th percentile or above of that admitted class.
What is the Digital SAT format?
The Digital SAT is a shorter, adaptive test taken on a computer. It includes two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math. The test adapts in difficulty based on how the student performs, and results are typically available within days. Our students practice on a professional Digital SAT testing platform that closely simulates the real exam.
Do you teach the digital SAT format?
Yes. All of our SAT preparation uses the current Digital SAT format, with full-length adaptive practice tests, Bluebook training, and section-specific strategy for both Math and Reading & Writing.
Do students work with one teacher or multiple?
Every SAT student gets two dedicated teachers: one for Math and one for Reading & Writing. Both teachers specialize in their section and coordinate on student progress.
Where can students take practice tests?
Students can take proctored full-length practice tests at our Redmond center under realistic conditions. We score them and walk through every missed question with the student.
Is online SAT tutoring as effective as in-person?
Yes. Our online SAT prep program uses the same personalized approach, diagnostic testing, and structured curriculum as our in-person sessions in Redmond. Students work one-on-one with their tutor over live video, and we have helped students across Washington and nationwide achieve strong results through our online program.
Can students outside Washington state enroll?
Yes. Our SAT prep program is available to students anywhere in the United States. Online students receive the same personalized experience as our in-person students in Redmond, including a full diagnostic assessment, a customized study plan, and dedicated Math and Reading & Writing teachers. Sessions are held live over video, and our tutors work one-on-one with each student just as they would in person.
How is Archimedes different from large SAT prep companies?
Most large test prep companies use group classes with standardized lesson plans. At Archimedes, every student gets a personalized study plan based on a full diagnostic assessment. Our tutors adapt instruction to each student's learning style, and sessions focus on building real understanding rather than memorizing shortcuts. Every student also gets a dedicated Math teacher and a dedicated Reading & Writing teacher, not a single generalist covering both subjects.
