Online tutoring, nationwide

Online Tutoring for Grades 5-12

Archimedes has taught students in person on the Eastside and online since 2012. Our online program is live, one-on-one tutoring with the same experienced tutors and the same customized curriculum students get in our Redmond center, available to families nationwide. It is not a franchise and not a gig or marketplace of part-time tutors. It is a real, experienced tutor, working with your student over live video, week after week.

What makes Archimedes online different

Our approach online starts with the same three commitments it does in person. Every student is taught by an experienced, professional tutor, not a high-scoring college student or a gig-marketplace tutor. Every student gets a curriculum customized to them, not a packaged script we run the same way for everyone. And every plan is tailored to the individual student's needs, built around what they already understand, where they are stuck, and how they learn best.

From there, the teaching is concept-driven. We focus on why the material works, not on memorization or test tricks, because understanding is what holds up under pressure and carries into the next course. Our teachers watch how each student thinks, then either strengthen the methods that already work for them or introduce new ones that fit better. None of that depends on being in the same room. We do it just as carefully online as we do across a desk in Redmond.

How online tutoring works

The process is straightforward, and it is the same one we use for in-person students.

  • We start with a free consultation to understand your student's goals, their current level, and what they need help with.
  • We learn how your student thinks and build a customized plan around the specific gaps and goals that matter most.
  • Your student meets weekly for live, one-on-one sessions with the same teacher each time.
  • We keep parents informed of progress along the way, so you always know how your student is doing and what we are working on next.

The online experience, made concrete

Online tutoring at Archimedes is not a watered-down version of what we do in person. It is the same teachers, teaching the same way, held to the same standard. The teacher who would sit beside your student in Redmond is the one on the screen, using the same materials and the same customized curriculum.

Sessions are live and one-on-one, held over Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Your student and their teacher work through problems together in real time, with the teacher watching the work as it happens, asking questions, and adjusting on the spot. It is a conversation and a working session, not a recorded lecture or a self-paced app.

Because it runs over live video, the program reaches families well beyond the Eastside. We teach students nationwide, and an online student in another state gets the same experience as a student down the road in Bellevue. Your student also keeps the same teacher every session. That continuity matters: one consistent relationship, a teacher who remembers what your student struggled with last week and builds on it, with no rotating roster of instructors.

What we tutor online

Everything we teach is available online. That includes math, from elementary math through Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus; science, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics and their AP and honors levels; coding, AI, and robotics; and English and social science. The depth on each of these lives on its own subject page, so this page stays focused on how online learning actually works rather than re-listing every topic.

Whatever subject brings your family to us, the format is the same: an experienced tutor, a plan built for your student, and live one-on-one sessions over video.

Test prep online

All of our test prep is available online as well. We prepare students for the SAT, the ACT, AP exams, the ISEE, and the SSAT, each on its own dedicated page where you can read how that program is structured.

Online test prep uses the same personalized approach, diagnostic testing, and structured curriculum as our in-person sessions in Redmond. For SAT students, qualifying students enrolled in our 12-week SAT program may also be eligible for the Archimedes 1500+ SAT Score Guarantee. That guarantee applies only to the 12-week SAT program and its requirements; it is not a general promise across other subjects or tests.

Our teachers

The reason online works at Archimedes is the same reason in-person works: who is teaching. Every one of our tutors is an experienced, professional tutor, not a part-time gig worker. In a field where many companies credential their tutors simply as students who once scored well, that is the most honest signal we can give you.

You can read more about the people who would teach your student on our teachers page. They come from a range of academic and professional backgrounds, and each specializes in the subjects they teach.

Who we serve

We work with students in grades 5 through 12. In person, we serve families across the Eastside, including Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Sammamish, Woodinville, and Bothell. Online, we work with students nationwide.

The format you choose does not change the substance of what your student gets. The same experienced tutors and the same customized approach apply whether your student meets us at our Redmond center or over live video from anywhere in the country.

Common questions

Is online tutoring as effective as in person?
Yes. Online students get the same experienced tutors, the same materials, and the same customized curriculum as in-person students, held to the same standard. Sessions are live and one-on-one, so the tutor watches your student's work in real time and adapts to it, just as they would across a desk in Redmond.
Where do you offer online tutoring?
We teach online nationwide. Any family in the United States can work with our teachers over live video. We also teach in person at our Redmond center for families across the Eastside, including Bellevue, Kirkland, Sammamish, Woodinville, and Bothell.
How do live online sessions work?
Sessions are one-on-one over live video, using Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Your student and their teacher work through problems together in real time, with the teacher asking questions and adjusting as they go. It is a live working session, not a recorded lecture or a self-paced app.
Will my student have the same teacher every session?
Yes. Your student works with the same teacher each session, not a rotating roster of instructors. That continuity lets the teacher build on what your student worked on the week before and keep the plan moving in one consistent direction.
Who are your online tutors?
Every one of our tutors is an experienced, professional tutor, not a gig or marketplace tutor. This is true for online and in-person students alike. It is the core of how we teach and the clearest difference between us and programs that credential their tutors simply as students who scored well.
Which subjects and tests can my student study online?
All of them. Online students can study math, science, coding, AI and robotics, and English and social science for grades 5 through 12, and we offer online test prep for the SAT, ACT, AP exams, ISEE, and SSAT. Each subject and test has its own page with more detail, and pricing for every program is on our tuition and fees page.
