The Julia Robinson Festival is challenging but noncompetitive, highlighting rich mathematical problems curated by adults who love math. It’s a perfect place for students who like math, games, or puzzles, for contest-goers looking to see what else math is about, and for students who prefer the collaborative, noncompetitive aspects of math to contests This is a festival aimed at inspiring students to explore the richness and beauty of mathematics through activities that encourage collaborative, creative problem solving in a non-competitive setting.

Session 1: Art – 8 weeks – Tuesdays 1/17-3/8

Foundations of Drawing + Color Theory and Media Exploration

Grades 2 - 9 / 5:00 PM-6:00 PM / $160.00

Week 1-4: Introducing students to the foundations of drawing: contour drawing, positive and negative spaces, shading techniques, and applying the learned concepts and techniques in still-life drawing exercises.

Week 5-8: Learning about the color wheel, look at how artists use different color schemes and painting techniques, and exploring color with various media, painting still-life, self-portraits and abstract themes.

Session 1: Architecture – 8 weeks – Wednesdays 1/18-3/9

Introduction to Architectural drawings and Ordering Principles

Grades 2 - 9 / 5:00 PM-6:00 PM / $160.00

Week 1-4: Introducing students to basic architectural language and tools, learning about architectural drawings, the floor plan, section, elevation and site plan, and use architectural language to draw their built environment.

Week 5-8: learning how axis, symmetry, repetition and hierarchy help organize spaces and forms in architecture. We will learn to identify main ordering principles, practice the use of those principals and work as a group to analyze and recognize ordering principals in famous buildings and sites.
