Teacher Alex

“Math is a means of taking a complex idea and rephrasing it until it becomes a simple idea; three more than double x is eleven leads to thinking more simply that x is four.”

ALEX'S EXPERIENCES

  • Taught math courses as a grad student at UL Lafayette in the areas of College Algebra, Statistics, and Financial Math

  • Professional tutor at Archimedes since moving to Redmond in 2014

  • Adjunct professor at DigiPen Institute of Technology, Fall 2014

  • Three summers teaching at Upward Bound hosted at Seattle University

  • Composed many written lessons for both Archimedes and Upward Bound

  • Developed and published a maze app on Google Play and the Apple App Store

WHY ALEX TEACHES

Mathematics is a world of interconnected landscapes. Without a map, students may feel uncertain of how to navigate it; Alex finds joy in guiding students through this maze, helping them discover paths and achieve their goals.

Whether the student is just visiting or seeks to carve out a home for themselves in this world of math and explore new frontiers, Alex will make sure they’re equipped for the journey.

Starting with helping his classmates in Algebra when he was in 8th grade and the real teacher was already busy helping another kid, Alex has always been on a journey to this work. Now equipped with a deep holistic understanding of mathematics, Alex continues his work, knowing there’s always more to explore.

FUN FACT ABOUT ALEX

Alex walks a lot, maintaining a minimum of 5.5 kilometers each and every day since April 2021. You may see him walking around Redmond, but try to resist the urge to honk because he won’t be able to recognize you from behind the windows of a car driving by at 40 miles per hour.
